 | On a blistering hot Friday night the Casey Scorpions took on Frankston at Moorabbin in the 2nd last practice match before the season starts proper. |
The original game time of 6pm was pushed back to a later start, due to the VFL guidelines that no games are able to commence unless the temperature is below 36 degrees. A cool change swept through at about 6.45pm and the game started a whisker before 7pm. Casey started the game very well with the St Kilda listed players in Ball, Goddard and Leigh Fisher all dominating early. Casey went inside 50 very frequently in the 1st quarter which allowed Ben Fraser to put on a clinic. He had 6 shots at goal resulting in 4 goals 2.
In the 2nd term Goddard, Ball and Mathews continued to win plenty of the footy and gave the Casey forward line plenty of opportunity early. Frankston showed alot of fight in the 2nd half of the quarter to kick the last four goals of the quarter after some sloppy defensive errors by the scorpions. Casey took a 26 point lead into the half time break The in 2nd half the quarters where shortened to 20 minutes and the game was a fairly even display. Players to come into the game in the 2nd half for the Scorps where Adam Parker who kicked three goals up forward. Andrew Campbell continued his terrific form down back winning plenty of footy and setting up plenty of run. Casey didn’t add to much to its half time lead running out winners by 34 points.
