Casey Scorpions have installed former Melbourne star Brett Lovett as their new senior coach.

Lovett has accepted a two-year deal in a pert-time role, replacing Port Adelaide-bound Bradley Gotch.

"The club has taken care to find the right person thoughout this appointment process and we believe we have got the right man," Casey President John Sharkie said on Monday morning.

"We are fortunate to have gained an outstanding football person, someone with great knowledge and understanding of the game and a proven track record in coaching."

"We think Brett's as absolute perfect fit for our organisation and are delighted he has agreed to come on board."

"We wanted to bring stability into the club and for that reason it is a two-year appointment."

Lovett played 235 games for Melbourne between 1987 and 1997 and was considered one of the most skillful players of his time.

He was a regular Victorian representative, was second in Melbourne's Best and Fairest in 1988 and came forth in the 1990 Brownlow Medal.

Lovett, well knows the VFL scene, having coached Frankston from 2003-08 (including three finals campaigns) and Sandringham in 2011.
