Sandown Classic Race Day was held last Saturday, 14th November. This event is a corporate day for the Casey Scorpions and 2009 again proved why this day is a success and thoroughly enjoyable for all who attend. 140 Scorpions sponsors, guests and friends enjoyed a delicious buffet and beverages in the Leger Room, which is on the 200m mark of the Sandown straight and is the perfect location to watch the 9 races of the day including race 7, the Sandown Classic.
The day was not only filled with the horse races plus we had a sweep for race 3, 5 & 7 where numerous people were happy winners. After the inaugural success last year of the "Fashions in the Leger Room" Sally Cameron, Event Organiser, compared the event with the an equal number of ladies & gentlemen for 'Best Dressed Female' and 'Best Dressed Male' categories, with the winners decided by out 3 judges, Karlene Evans (Scorpions Function Manager), Louise Morison (Blue Hills Residences) and Chris Peterson (Renoma Printery). The judges said the males were a harder decision, with Daniel from Endeavour Petroleum taking out the prize and Rhonda from Lyon Sportswear took the honours for the ladies. The 'Best Hat or Head-Piece' went to Tiffany from Lyon Sportswear, who came 1st from a group of 9 others, including one male from table 14 in a hand-made napkin hat! 3 memorabilia pieces of Tiger Woods, Casey Stoner and the Kokoda Trail were auctioned by Brian Woodman, Scorpions General Manager. All pieces had plenty of interest with a couple of bidding wars taking place between tables and sold on the day to people from our sponsors tables. To add to the excitement of the day we also had a raffle for a fabulous "Legends of the Track" piece complete with 9 photo's of past Melbourne Cup winners and the lucky winner was Simon from The PlasticsMan table. Congratulations to all the winners, including Zipping and a fantastic history making 3rd Sandown Classis. |
