Young Guns to take the Reigns
Young Guns to take the Reigns as Club Stalwarts Step Down

The Changing of the Guard has occurred over the summer at Casey Fields with the announcement of Steve Harrison’s and Nigel Carmody’s last games for the club. Both players take with them an enormous amount of experience, and the club now looks to our young guns to take the reins and continue our pursuit towards premiership glory.

There has been much change to playing group since the move to Casey Fields, and with the continued development of youngsters such as Steven O’Brien, Kyle Mathews, Alex Silvagni, Ben Fraser, Chris Dunne, and Evan Panozza the club is in good hands to challenge within the next few years.

After 10 seasons and a combined 282 games, club champions Steven Harrison and Nigel Carmody have given their heart and soul to the club.

First playing with the club in 1998, the best of mates began their careers in the reserve grade, both showing plenty of promise.

It wouldn’t take long for the two of them to become senior leaders both on and off the field.

Nigel ‘Nudge’ Carmody finishes  having played 142 games and kicking 88 goals. He won the reserves Best & Fairest in 1998, and was a vital member of the leadership team for many seasons. He took over as Captain from Steve at the beginning of 2007. Nigel finished second in the Best & Fairest in the last two seasons narrowly missing out on taking the honor himself both times.

Steve ‘Harro’ Harrison leaves having played 140 games and kicking 60 goals; he took over from Jason Caples as club Captain in 2003, and was captain for the clubs first season at its new home at Casey Fields in 2006, before handing the captaincy on to Nigel in 2007. Steve won a club record 5 Best and Fairest’s for the club in 2001, 2003, 2004, 2005 as well as 2007. Steve with now Coach Chelsea in the MPNFL.

The experience and expertise that these guys passed on to our playing group will no doubt  assist the Scorpions future, as well as the hard work and tough decisions made by Peter Banfield during his 3 years at the club, all of which have helped set the ground work for the Scorpions in 2008 and  for new Coach Greg Hutchison to take us right into the future with this exciting talented young list.

Feature Article

Watching Adam Parker play footy is like watching a brickie on a job site. There's no fuss, no glamour, not ritz, just a bloke who knows what he has to do, and who's getting the job done.
