It was an uncompromising Scorpions outfit that took to the field against the Bullants on Sunday, and in spectacular form came out 118 point winners. This was the best win for the Scorpions since round 2 last year, and after a hiccup against Tasmania two weeks ago, this was a strong indication that the Scorpions mean business in 2008.
The first quarter had the Scorpions playing a good brand of football, and seemed to control most the game through all areas of the ground. A welcome return by Jason Blake had the Scorpions on top in the middle of the ground, with pure body strength provided by Jason, Leigh Fisher and Michael Rix at the bounce. The backline started strongly and rebounded at every opportunity albeit it seemed rare as the Bullants struggled to get any flow in the game. Mathew Ferguson was handed the opportunity to start up forward and stay there the whole game, he has been used in pinch hitting roles before but on Sunday proved his versatility and skill once more, he had 2 of the first 3 goals and was marking everything that got close to him. And at quarter time the Scorpions had 4 majors on the board while the Bullants could only manage 2 behinds.

Coach Greg Hutchison praised his side at the Quarter Time break for their ability early on to put their head over the footy and win the contested ball. It was no different in the second quarter, with Andrew McQualter coninuing his season form providing plenty of drive out of the stoppages. Clinton Jones' dash and ball winning ability through the middle of the ground had him seem untouchable at stages, and on numerous occasions provided a deep kick into the forward 50 that caused all sorts of headaches for oppostion defenders. Mathew Ferguson continued where he had left off after quarter time, kicking a couple more, and Michael Rix was also able to drift forward and take a big pack mark from three deep to bring the crowd to their feet. The Scorpions were able to slam home 9 goals for the quarter to go into the main break 76 points up and well and truly in control!

At Half Time, the coaching staff urged the Scorpions to stay switched on, and knew that the Bullants would not lie down, throwing everything they had at the Scorpions outfit. The Bullants came out and kicked a couple of early goals and seemed to be showing better signs, but they were stopped in their tracks in preponderant fashion by the backline duo of Alex Silvagni and James Wall, both of who are enjoying a fantastic season. James Gwilts poise and penetration with his kicking enabled the Scorpions to hurt he Bullants coupld of time on the rebound, and the control of the game was back in the Scorpions hands right on Three-Quarter time, the Bullants slightly out-scoring the Scorpions by 3 points for the term, but the Scorpions had done well to weather the storm.
Casey 16.9. 105 Bullants 4.8. 32 The Last Term capped off a dominant day for the Scorpions, as they continued to run and compete for the remainder of the game. Mathew Ferguson had a great day at the office, kicking 7 goals 5 for the day, and on numerous occasions brought the crowd to their feet with spectacular flies from seemingly impossible postions. James Taylor continued to plug away in a variety of roles, and the Scorpions Kicked another 9 goals in the last quarter as they looked to show no mercy. Steve O'Bryan's confidence grew after his shoulder injury pre-season and he was able to get amongst it in the midfield and up forward, and the Scorps were able to run out 118 point winners and move to third on the ladder. The Reserves started slowly and found themselves 5 goals down at quarter tim, but the continued pressure and efforts by Daniel Unsworth and Beau Vernon in particular had the Scorpions back in the game and within a couple of kicks half way through the third quarter. Unfortunately they couldn't maintain the intensity and eventually went down by 29 points. James Terry kicked 4 goals and Kahn Haretuku showed some positive signs kicking 3 goals and rucking for a large chunk of the day.
