Scorpions Kick Away

Casey won their third straight game on the weekend, and in perfect conditions for footy proved too strong when they travelled to Bendigo to take on the Bombers at Queen Elizabeth Oval. The Scorpions now move to third on the ladder, and the team is starting to look like a strong finals threat.

The game started at very high intensity, both sides were working hard around the stoppages to try and gain an edge, and midway through the term both teams had 2 goals straight on the board. Andrew McQualter had started the game in exceptional style, playing in the middle he was winning the footy with ease around the ground, delivering well to the forwards and working hard both ways, including a couple of good goals up front. Shance Birss was also in amongst the action, but it was an inspirational chase from first year player Andrew Campbell that triggered some late goals in the term to go into quarter time 16 points up, slowly gaining ascendancy around the ground aswell.

Bendigo  3.2. 20

The second quarter saw a tussle from both sides. Jarryd Allen was pushing hard whether at Centre Half Forward, or in the Goal Square, and Robert Eddy was doing his best to limit Jason Johnson's influence on the game. Ben McEvoy had his work cut out when Michael Rix withdrew late from the game, the young kid didn't dissapoint showing signs of what he is capable of, he was well assisted by Alex Silvagni, who not only was playing down back, but providing a chop out for McEvoy when required, adding some more grunt and and run through our midfield. Once again it was Andrew McQualter causing headaches for the opposition and at the half time break, the Scorpions had increased their lead ever so slightly, now up by 21 points, but were really starting to take control around the ground.

Bendigo   6.3. 39

The thrid term saw the game open up a bit in genreal play, but every goal that was kicked by one side, seemed to be matched by the other. 10 goals were kicked for the quarter. Jarryd Allen was still providing plently, and the small forward rotations were starting to pay off with fresh legs coming from Ryan Creed and Jack Steven, Jack, in particular impressed, when despite being the target of oposition players, eventually had the last laugh when he didn't let it distract his own game and drilled 3 majors for the day. Matt Ferguson was displaying his trademark style of play, taking no short steps in running back with the footy to take regular grabs on the last line of defence. He proved his versatility when swung forward late in the term, only to take a hanger in the Goal Square and kick truly. At three quarter time the Scorpions had only extended their lead by 1 point and went into the break 22 points up.

Persistence and character shone through for the Scorpions in the last term when they were challenged from a last gasp effort from Bendigo. Despite kicking the first goal of the quarter, Bendigo threw everything they had, kicking the next three goals in 5 minutes of play to get withing of few kicks. Chris Dunne came on and made a big impact when he ran amok accross half forward, he kicked 3 last quarter goals. The hard work for the day was seeing the reward now, with Jarryd Allen kicking his 6th goal for the afternoon and the game was all but won when James Gwilt kicked a 70m bouncing goal to cap off a good performance from the team. The Scorpions were able to run out 41 point victors with 7 last quarter Goals. Andrew McQualter was Best On Ground for the second weekend in a row, and is enjoying his best start to the season while providing strong on field leadership and working hard all game every game. Jarryd Allen was not too far behind putting in his best effort for the club with 6 goals from both Full Forward and up the ground.

Feature Article

Watching Adam Parker play footy is like watching a brickie on a job site. There's no fuss, no glamour, not ritz, just a bloke who knows what he has to do, and who's getting the job done.
