R9 Against Geelong

Round 9 and after a week off, the Scorpions returned to Casey Fields where they were yet to drop a game this season. Geelong hadn’t been as dominant this season but had started to run into form in recent week so this was still to be a test for the Scorpions, The first quarter provided some sloppy footy from both sides and it was Geelong who seemed to be in control of the game. Andrew McQualter was a welcome return for the Scorpions and set about doing all the hard stuff early to keep the Scorpions in the contest. Charlie Gardiner had started well against his old club, who he had won a premiership with last season, and Kyle Mathews seemed to be getting better with every minute of football he was playing. At quarter time, it staggered some people that the Scorpions had their noses in front, as they relied on patches of good footy to score. The second quarter was much similar and the Scorpions were still unable to play to their high standards achieved this season, but still found them plugging away and at half time went in leading by 7 points.

Casey:    4.2.  26    7.2. 44
Geelong: 3.2. 20    5.7. 37
The game, as it so often does, opened up after half time and players like Aaron Fiora and forst games Luke Miles were able to get themselves into the action, Fiora with a couple of very good goals, and Miles as if he hadn’t missed a beat all season at both ends of the ground. The Scorpions were able to kick 4 goals to 2 and extend to what felt a comfortable lead for the first time on the match. The last quarter sae the Scorpions really work hard to run the game out. Michael Rix was once more outstanding, and his dominance well noticed by Midfielders Andrew McQualter and Kyle Mathews who both enjoyed good games. Charlie Gardiner and Luke Miles finished with 3 goals each and the Casey boys were able to slam home 7 majors in the last quarter to Geelong’s 4 to eventually finish up 39 point victors.

Casey:       11. 7. 73      18. 9. 117
Geelong:     7.10. 52     11.12.  78

The reserves had to ravel to Sandringham due to the fixture and work extremely hard against a good Zebras outfit, kicking 5 goals in the last term wasn’t enough however to get them home as Sandringham eventually won by 13 points. Joel Galvin was awarded best on ground honours, while Luke Williams and Beau Vernon both kicked 3 goals.

Feature Article

Watching Adam Parker play footy is like watching a brickie on a job site. There's no fuss, no glamour, not ritz, just a bloke who knows what he has to do, and who's getting the job done.
