R7 Scorpions overcome Pies

Round 7 against Collingwood saw the introduction of yet another debutant for the year, Beau Vernon played his first game and Club Legend and father, Daryl, was in the rooms pre-match to present his son with his jumper giving the rooms a good buzz before the match. Collingwood Football Club ventured to Casey Fields in round 7 for the first time ever, and this also marked the return of former skipper Nigel Carmody to the Fields, this time in Black and White stripes. The conditions were shocking for footy, and the game required 100% application from the playing group if we were to fight out a win. Clinton Jones was once more working tirelessly in the midfield as usual and with Stefan Garrubba’s pace along with Even Panozza’s athleticism the Scorpions were fighting hard. At half time the Scorpions would have a 3 goal advantage in a low scoring affair, despite a Scoreless first quarter.

The third term saw both sides only manage 1 goal each and the game seemed to be a battle of the back halves, Casey, with the best backline in the competition so far this season, led by both Alex Silvagni and James Wall were rebounding just about everything that came down, but at ¾ time our lead had only extended by 2 points. The last quarter saw the Scorpions finally break the pies, and the hard work done all day came together as they were able to pile on 5 goals to 1. Ben McEvoy impressed for a big man on a though day and Brad Howard’s confidence was continuing to build. Clinton Jones was awarded best on ground and earnt himself use of a ford V8 Ute for the week courtesy of Ford and ABC TV.

Feature Article

Watching Adam Parker play footy is like watching a brickie on a job site. There's no fuss, no glamour, not ritz, just a bloke who knows what he has to do, and who's getting the job done.
