On a mild overcast and windy Sunday afternoon, the Casey Scorpions were defeated by the reigning premiers Sandringham at Trevor Barker Oval.

It was the Zebras who wanted to land the early blows by scoring the opening few goals. A good mark and goal from the 50 metre arc by Justin Sweeney kept the Scorpions in touch, as a 6 to 2 goal quarter allowed the Zebras to take a 25 point lead in at the first change.

During the second quarter, Casey needed to score quick goals to bring themselves into the match. A great tackle by James Taylor and goal conversion along with a great mark and goal to Michael Rix was just what Casey needed as the margin was reduced to 16 points.

Several Zebra goal replies kept the Scorpions at bay but another good grab and goal to Justin Sweeney allowed the Scorpions to stay in touch. The Scorpions won the quarter scoring 4.1 to 2.7 as the Zebras went in at half time with a 19 point lead.

In the third quarter, Casey needed quick goals to put pressure on the Zebras. A great tap from the ruck by Rix to Shane Birss who snapped truly had the Scorpions trailing by 20 points. A fairly even quarter saw the Zebras increase their lead with a 4.4 to 3.2 term to lead the match by 27 points at the final change.

In the final quarter, a nice run past receive from skipper Nigel Carmody to handball to Clinton Jones for a goal was a nice goal conversion for the Scorpions. But in the end a 9.4 to 1.0 display by the Zebras allowed them to record a 79 point victory.

Next Saturday afternoon, the Casey Scorpions return home to Victoria’s “House of Pain” or “The Field Of Dreams” as was dubbed  last year, when we they take on last year’s runner up Geelong at Casey Fields. Scorpions fans if you wish to have a football feast and still have some of the weekend left, then head on down to Casey Fields and get a bumper crowd in! Go  Scorpions!

Feature Article

Watching Adam Parker play footy is like watching a brickie on a job site. There's no fuss, no glamour, not ritz, just a bloke who knows what he has to do, and who's getting the job done.
