On a bright and gorgeous Sunday afternoon, the Casey Scorpions destroyed an youthful Box Hill Hawks outfit demolishing the Hawks by a massive 129 points at Casey Fields.

The Casey Scorpions were looking to bounce back from their horror start last week at home against a Box Hill Hawks line up determined to put on a good first showing after having the bye in the opening round of the season.

But in the first quarter, it was the Scorpions who took immediate control of the match by winning the clearances from the stoppages and looking to develop a running style of football to virtually run the Hawks off their feet!

A great running goal to Troy Makepeace capped off a fine quarter for the Scorpions who scored five unanswered goals for the quarter as they took a commanding 30 point lead at the first break.

The second quarter was important for the Scorpions to consolidate their fine start to this game of football. And that they did as the Scorpions continued to run in bursts to further extend their lead.

A great goal from the boundary line from David Biagi along with goals to Justin Sweeney and Ben Fraser from ball gets collected from marking contests allowed the Casey Scorpions to wrestle control of the match. A 7.4 to 3.3 quarter allowed the Scorpions to go in at half time with a nice 55 point lead.

Whatever Peter Banfield said to his team at half time must have been along the lines of “Finish the job, its only half done!!!” as the Casey Scorpions came out and ripped the heart out of the opposition with a five goal blitz in the opening ten minutes of the third quarter.

Box Hill players struggled to be accountable as the Scorpions ran rampant in what was one of their best games of football for several years. A great ‘slips catch’ to David Armitage was a highlight as the Scorpions had an 8.1 to 3.0 to skip to a 86 point lead at the last change.

All that was left for the Scorpions in the last quarter was to continue to run and chase and attack the football. James Wall took a great grab in the final quarter and another 8.4 to 1.3 sealed a fantastic four quarters of football for the Scorpions. In the end the rout was complete with the Casey Scorpions defeating the Box Hill Hawks by 129 points.

All Saints and Scorpions fans are urged to get behind your VFL team the Casey Scorpions in our home game next week against the Magpie affiliated Seagulls! After all, it is a bit like St.Kilda playing Collingwood, except it’s in your own backyard!

GO SAINTS AND GO SCORPIONS!!!!

Feature Article

Watching Adam Parker play footy is like watching a brickie on a job site. There's no fuss, no glamour, not ritz, just a bloke who knows what he has to do, and who's getting the job done.
