THEY might have been up against a side containing seven players boasting more than 350 AFL games between them, but the Casey Scorpions proved more than a match for Coburg on Saturday.

The two clubs faced off at Casey Fields in the final hit out before Round 1 this weekend, with the Scorpions emerging 20 point-winners.

While Casey coach Peter German did have the services of a handful of Demons including the returning Russell Robertson, his Scorpions-listed players were just as impressive against Coburg’s Richmond players Mark Coughlan, Jordan McMahon and Will Thursfield.

While Demon Lynden Dunn racked up 30 plus possessions, captain Kyle Matthews was just as busy and Pierce Liddle booted two goals and had eight tackles.

``It was a good hit out,’’

``We thought that Coburg had a really good side in.  They probably had a better squad than us, in terms of AFL experience.’’

Lees revealed that as many as seven off-season recruits could debut for the Scorpions this Sunday against Sandringham.

Liddle and defender Peter Faulks have been pencilled in, and selection also beckons for Michael Stockdale and Ben MaCreadie.

Rian McGough, Nick Scanlon and Josh Bolton are also in the mix, while Matt Moore is a smoky after booting eight goals in the reserves on Saturday.
