Ben Waite in his second best on ground performance in a row will be pushing for senior selection |
Leading in to the match the Casey Scorpions reserves had a daunting task ahead of them. They faced a North Ballarart team that had only lost three games for the entire year and were strengthen by AFL star Aaron Edwards who kicked 100+ goals for Frankston two seasons ago prior to being drafted to North Melbourne.
With all these factors against them it didn’t stop the Scorpions who only fielded 20 players pulling of the biggest upset of the reserves competition for 2008. Their grit and determination was inspiration to each other as they overcame a poor start. The Scorpions had a ‘never say die’ attitude for the 120 minutes and it was a character building win for all involved. The Scorpions eventually ran out victors by 18 points, with every player contributing to the win at different stages in the game. Ben Waite was judge best on field for his role on Aaron Edwards and will certainty push for a senior recall after two best on ground performances in a row. James Terry did a fantastic job on the 2006 former League B&F Steven Dinnell while Peter Mercoulia and Jared Matheson worked tirelessly in the midfield, while Fraser Mohr, Fridman, Zito all kicked two goals in the wet and freezing cold conditions. The win was soured by the injures to David Leung and Luke Williams, who will likely miss the remainder of the 2008 season, but it wasn’t before the both provided inspirational acts in the final term whilst injured to help get the boys over the line. The Scorpions travel to Frankston this week against another finals contender. | SCORES | | TEAMS | TIME/VENUE | | 10.15-75 | | Casey Scorpions | 11:10 AM Sun 10/Aug
